Hello, my name
is Cathey Mathis. My husband is Pat Mathis, an investigator with
the Shelbyville Police Department. I'm a 911 operator and dispatcher
for Bedford County Communication Center. I have been on this
job for since 1987, which was the organization of the center. Being a call taker, I only deal with the
complainant or victim. When I dispatch a call to an officer I
hardly ever know what happens after the officer has completed
the call. When I heard the Shelbyville Police Department was
going to start a Citizen's Police Academy, I knew I wanted to
attend. I know when I take a call, such as, a domestic call I
need to ask all the right questions for officer safety. The Police
Academy has a ride along program where you can actually ride
with and go on calls with the officers. Riding with the officers
really made me realize how important it is for me to make sure
I give them all the information pertaining to a call, such as,
are there any type of weapons involved, how many people are involved,
physical description, tag number if a vehicle is involved, and
so on.
If you as a citizen of Shelbyville/Bedford
would take the time to attend the Citizen's Police Academy, you
would see how professional and caring our local officers are.
These men and women put their lives on the line every day and
night to protect and serve you and me.
Thanks,
Cathey Mathis
