Hello, I am Officer Jason Williams. I would like to take a minute to talk about the Shelbyville Police Department's Citizens Police Academy. While I was attending Middle Tennessee State University, I had the opportunity to enroll in the Citizen's Police Academy. At the time, I was a criminal justice major and was planning for a career in law enforcement, but was not sure what level I wanted to be involved at. Once I started in the Citizen's Academy, it made up my mind. I never really understood what was involved in being a police officer until seeing first hand for myself in the Citizen's Academy. I always figured there would be plenty of action and excitement, but, the Citizen's Police Academy, not only showed me what it was really like to be a police officer, it also gave me tremendous respect for the officers we have, and made me want to be a part of the Shelbyville Police Department team.

I would highly recommend to any citizen to become active with their police department and if you do have the opportunity to attend a Citizen's Police Academy, just do it!
